Consumer Rights

Buying a car can be one of the most exciting purchases you make.  Unfortunately, the initial happiness can quickly turn to anger and despair if it becomes apparent that the car purchased is faulty.  Automobile salespersons and dealerships are not always looking out for your best interests and you can be financially harmed by a bad purchase.

If you believe that you were the victim of a deceptive car sale, contact the Law Office of Sylvia Williams today for a free consultation about your rights and remedies.

The best protection is to thoroughly research any automobile before making a purchase:

  • Print out a car history report. Websites like Carfax.com provide low-cost vehicle history reports that can be invaluable to the consumer.

  • Find its value with Kelly’s Blue Book.  If a dealer is trying to sell you a car for $10,000 and it’s only worth $8,000, you are being taken advantage of.  Likewise, if the car’s value should be $10,000 and the dealer is offering it to you for $5,000, you should be suspicious about why the price is so low.

  • Have it checked by a certified independent inspector.  A trained inspector should be able to determine if the vehicle has any significant damages or mechanical problems that could cause you problems later.

  • Don't be afraid to walk away. A salesperson that is pushing you too hard to make a quick purchase is often a bad sign - tell them "Thanks, but no thanks."
